Music is important at Birds Bush because:
Making music is a pleasurable activity which can provide lifelong fulfilment.
The study of music enhances all other areas of education and there is much evidence to suggest that children who do well in music do well in all their studies.
Pupils develop social skills and awareness through music making together in class and extracurricular choirs and instrumental groups.
Music is taught throughout the school. Years 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 all have one session per week and Reception and Nursery children also have a music session each week.
A 30 minute whole school singing session takes place weekly.
Extracurricular music activities include a choir and two recorder groups. Each of these groups rehearses once a week.
Children are given the opportunity to have instrumental lessons. These take place at school but are paid for by parents. We currently have around 25 children learning to play the violin, clarinet, guitar and drums.
Recently children at Birds Bush have enjoyed performing in school productions, a recorder festival and for National Sing up Day. Year 3 and 4 children are also looking forward to taking part in the Staffordshire Songbirds concert in June.
