School Council

Our school council consists of 2 representatives from each class from Y1 to Y6. They meet fortnightly to discuss issues raised from their fellow pupils.

Here is the result of the latest school council work...

The School Council and Class Councils have been trying to encourage more children to eat a healthy, balanced school meal at lunchtime. As a result of these discussions, we have come up with some new initiatives.

  • Some children who have school dinners have been concerned that they couldn’t eat with their friends, if their friends brought sandwiches, as they are called down off the playground at different times.

We now allow children called for dinner to bring a ‘sandwich friend’ who they are playing with to eat with them.

  • For some years, in good weather, sandwich children have been allowed to eat outside, ‘picnic style’ if they wish.

We now allow children in years 3-6 to do the same and reserve some benches for them. They can, of course, eat with their sandwich friends.

  • Some children do not have school dinners because, in the past, they have had an experience where the meal they wanted had run out by the time their class has been called down and they have got to the servery.

To try and prevent this from happening we are going to introduce a main course meal ordering system straight after half term.

  • Some children complained that the main course they wanted came with vegetables they didn’t like.

Children can have any choice of available vegetables or a selection from the salad bar with their main course. They are not limited to the strict order set out on the menu.

Well done to our school councillors!!
